Last Friday the Hamlin community took to the links for a beautiful day of fun and fundraising. The effort behind this year’s Raise the Paddle was focused on Hamlin’s physical education, athletics, and wellness programs for students. Each year, the funds raised from the Hamlin Golf Classic support vital initiatives such as faculty enrichment, tuition assistance, and innovative programs, all of which are essential to the unique Hamlin educational experience.
142 players and volunteers gathered at the Presidio Clubhouse before heading out to the course around noon. There were several themed golf holes with creative decor ranging from a Hawaiian Luau with palm trees, to a camping hole with a tent and campfire. The winning foursome was Jeff MIller, Phillip Graf, Steve Puricelli, and Paul VanderMark. They were recognized at the evening fiesta; receiving a trophy and honorary jackets.
The theme of the evening celebration was “Fall Fiesta” in recognition of Hamlin’s first year of teaching Spanish to all girls K-8, and featured a number of students’ Spanish projects along the walls and on iPads. The event had an Mexican-inspired ambiance with delicious dishes like chicken mole and chile rellenos. Raffle tickets were sold throughout the day and the winners were announced at the fiesta. Prizes included four tickets to a Warriors vs. Cavaliers game, private golf lessons, and “Must Have Boxes” by POPSUGAR.
The Golf Classic was a tremendous success thanks to the generous support of the Hamlin community. Special thanks to Lauren and Andrew Kowal for chairing the event and to the numerous volunteers who helped it go smoothly.
